What We Do

Rooielsers get to live in one of the planet’s most beautiful, unspoiled corners. That means we need to look after it just as much as we need to look after our homes and businesses.

That’s where RERA comes in. We are local volunteers, a mix of full-time and part time residents. While striving to protect our environment and preserve the Rooiels way of life, it’s our job to make sure Overstrand Municipality (OM) and our fellow villlagers do the same!

We focus on the following:

🏠 Making sure all new building is legal, and strengthening the effect of municipal law in restraining the scale of development.

🚰  Lobbying OM to best maintain our roads and infrastructure – water pipes, storm water drains, refuse bins etc. and helping OM to provide the services we depend on efficiently.

⛏️ Inspiring and coordinating the many volunteers who are able to help maintain the village pathways and servitudes.

🔥 Co-ordinate with the OM and Pringle Bay fire services and manage the Rooiels Firewise plan so as to best protect Rooiels against the almost inevitabile risk of fire.

🏵️ Maintaining the small fynbos gardens that enhance our little central business district.

🛣️ Lobbying the Provincial Roads Authority and Government to improve Road Safety on the the R44, especially on the long bend that carves through our village.

🐒 Alongside the Conservancy, helping all villagers and visitors to best cope with the adaptations needed to live alongside our baboon troop.

👍Running RERA as a legal and viable entity, maintaining positive relations with all in the village and beyond.
