About the boat club

The Rooiels Boat Club (also known as REBC) is a community organisation that supports safe, responsible access to the sea for small craft users in Rooiels. Run by local volunteers, the club exists to coordinate the shared use of the slipway, promote good seamanship, and foster a respectful boating culture that recognises Rooiels’ unique coastal and environmental context.

The club brings together residents and regular users of the slipway to manage practical matters, represent the interests of boat users, foster community spirit, and work constructively with authorities and neighbouring organisations to ensure continued access to the sea.

What we do

🛶 Manage and maintain coastal access

We are the custodians of the Rooiels slipway and its facilities, ensuring that launching and retrieval can take place efficiently and easily.

⚓ Promote safety and good seamanship

Through communication, guidance, and peer accountability, the club encourages safe boating practices and responsible behaviour on and off the water. We also help co-ordinate and support rescue organisations during emergencies.

🤝 Represent the boating community

The Boat Club provides a collective voice for Rooiels boat users when engaging with authorities and other on matters affecting access, infrastructure, and coastal use.

🏘️ Bring the village together

The Boat Club is key to keeping some of the village’s most treasured traditions alive, such as the annual Boat Club braai, and publication of the annual village magazine “The Breeze”. In addition, the Boat Club generously supports other village and local organisations with donations, sponsorship, input and advice.
