About RESA
Here in Rooiels, the safety and security of our village are top priorities, and that’s exactly what the Rooiels Security Association (RESA) is all about. RESA is a community-led, non-profit security organisation that brings together residents and homeowners to support and enhance safety across the village. As a volunteer-driven initiative, RESA works year-round to help reduce crime, build neighbour networks, and coordinate a professional security presence that makes Rooiels a safer place for everyone.
Founded in 2014, RESA operates independently with a formal constitution and governance structure as a non-profit company. RESA’s purpose is to oversee and manage security services contracted on behalf of members, support local patrolling and vigilance efforts, and act as a representative voice on safety matters affecting the community.
What we do
In practice, RESA’s work benefits the village by enabling:
🚨 24 hour security
RESA contracts a security service provider with a dedicated patrol vehicle and guard based in the village. This enables regular patrols, rapid response to incidents, and a reassuring visibility that deters crime and enhances confidence in our neighbourhood.
🖥️ CCTV and technology
RESA maintains a network of CCTV cameras across key points in the village, including night-vision capable devices and licence plate recognition at the main entrance. These tools help monitor activity, support incident response, and provide valuable information when events occur.
👁️ Volunteer patrols
RESA organises residents who volunteer to regularly patrol the village at night, keeping a watchful eye for anything suspicious. This community-powered vigilance complements the professional security presence and reinforces local care and trust.
🏪 A dedicated security office
The RESA office in Anemone Street provides a home base in the heart of the village for volunteer patrollers and our security provider. Residents can visit the office to get their security questions answered or get help with any safety or security issues.
Join RESA
Although our work benefits all community members, it is made possible by residents who choose to support it through membership. Joining helps us negotiate more effectively with service providers and authorities, maintain and expand our security infrastructure, and provide premises from which security operations can be co-ordinated. Please join or renew to keep Rooiels safer for everyone.
Annual membership fees: R2 000 per household
Fees are due every January.
