Beach Cleanups
Unfortunately Rooiels is not immune from the scourge of plastic waste, which flows into Rooiels Bay from the Cape Flats. The Conservancy organises regular cleanups along our coastline, including the beach, the estuary and the rocky shoreline. We also partner with the Sustainable Seas Trust for International Coastal Cleanup Day on the third Saturday of September.
Plastic waste harms wildlife and chokes delicate coastal ecosystems. Every piece removed helps protect birds, marine mammals, fish, and the unique habitats that make Rooiels so special.
We’re grateful for the continued support we see from the community for these events, and inspired by individuals who organise spontaneous cleanups, or simply pick up litter when they are out and about. It all makes a difference to battle the constant influx of litter and plastic waste in our marine environment.
🙋 Keep an eye on the village WhatsApp groups for notifications from the Conservancy and join the next cleanup!Â
Or simply take a bag with you on your next walk – every bit helps.
