Partnerships and Collaborations

The Conservancy believes that collaboration is essential to successful conservation. As well as working closely with the other village organisations, we collaborate formally and informally with many other organisations as advisors, partners, drivers, contributors and boots on the ground.

Betty’s Bay Conservancy

The Conservancy works directly with the Betty’s Bay Conservancy on ad hoc projects like local expo’s and markets, and surveying alien vegetation infestations. We also sit on many of the same committees.

Baboon Interest Group (BIG)

The Conservancy is a founding member and sits on the board of this collaborative forum of organisations working to ensure the well-being and welfare of humans and chacma baboons.

Coastal Rewilding

Coastal Rewilding

A registered non-profit dedicated to protecting ecosystems, biodiversity and co-existence in the Kogelberg, the Conservancy recently worked with Coastal Rewilding to protest the erection of barbed wire fences in Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and Rooiels.

Botanical Society of South Africa (Kogelberg branch)

We regularly consult with Tim Attwell, the Kogelberg Branch Secretary on a broad range of topics such as firewise vegetation management, endangered flora and the upcoming affiliation of the Rooiels Hack to the Botanical Society. He has also done a few fascinating talks for the Conservancy.

Cape Leopard Trust

We upload images captured on the wildlife cameras to the Cape Leopard Trust’s database, to assist with the identification and tracking of leopards in the province.

Conservancy Partnerships and Collaborations

CapeNature

We work with CapeNature on a number of initiatives such as trail management, estuary management and stewardship of the Rooiels Nature Reserve. We also sit on the advisory committee of the Stony Point Nature Reserve which is run by CapeNature.

City of Cape Town Municipality

The Conservancy sits on the advisory committee of the Steenbras Nature Reserve which is run by the City of Cape Town.

Kogelberg Biosphere Company

We liaise with Kogelberg Biosphere on conservation related issues like surveying alien vegetation investations, lobbying for conservation regulations and bylaws. Along with the Betty’s Bey Conservancy, Coastal Rewilding and the Kogelberg Biosphere, the Conservancy is working on an initiative to ensure that conservation and environmental issues are considered in national, provincial and local government decisions.

Overstrand Municipality

The Conservancy is in regular communication and liaison with the Overstrand Municipality, especially the Environmental Management and Conservation Division. We advocate for the formalisation and expansion of nature reserve zoned areas in Rooiels, the enacting and enforcing of bylaws and sustainable development.

Rooiels Organisations

We collaborate closely with the other Rooiels organisations where there are overlapping interests, such as keeping the village firewise, and meeting plot clearing requirements in ways which are sensitive to the ecological impacts.

Sustainable Seas Trust

Over and above our regular informal cleanups, we work with the Sustainable Seas Trust to organise and facilitate the annual International Beach Cleanup Day on the third Saturday of every September.

Conservancy Partnerships and Collaborations

World Wildlife Fund (South Africa)

The Conservancy and WWF are committed to establishing an ecological corridor from the coast to Kogelberg Nature Reserve through the smallholdings south of the village. The Conservancy is proud to have played a part in seeing a significant property already donated for this purpose, with several more in the pipeline.
