Wildlife Cameras

In 2011 generous villagers donated funds to set up wildlife cameras in the lesser trodden areas of Rooiels, hoping to capture images and data about species inhabiting the village surrounds.

Since then, dedicated volunteers have regularly visited and maintained the cameras, and additional cameras have been installed in other locations. It’s thrilling to see some lesser-seen animals on the captured images, including shots of leopards, caracals, klipspringers, genets, porcupines, even honey badgers!

The cameras help us gain insight into the hidden lives of our more secretive wild neighbours. We share sighting data with the Cape Leopard Trust, which contributes to their research and helps them track individuals.
