At The Coastline

The Rooiels coast has everything! A beautiful beach, rugged rock formations, rock pools, a pristine estuary, a seal colony – even a reef below the waterline. It’s on us to make sure our wonderful coastline remains healthy and respected.

Some things to bear in mind.

  • “Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints” is a good rule of thumb when you visit the coastline.
  • If you want to fish, crayfish, collect shellfish or any marine creatures or plants for personal use, you’ll need a permit from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. It’s your responsibility to know and comply with size limits, bag limits and permitted catch dates.

👉 You can apply on the online portal.

  • If you a person or a boat in trouble, conact the NSRI’s emergency number 063 699 2765 (Kleinmond) or 082 990 5967 (Hermanus).

If you see poaching off our coastline, please report it:

  1. Log a report on the Kogelberg C.A.R.E app (download it below).
  2. Post on the Block Watch WhatsApp group so your neighbours are aware.
  3. Report it on WhatsApp 083 236 2926 with a pin location and a description of what you saw.

You can also report pollution and marine wildlife strandings on the C.A.R.E app.
