Rooiels Ratepayers Association
Our Vision
To nurture Rooiels as a caring community located in the UNESCO Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, with as little as possible impact on the indigenous fauna, flora and landscape in which we live.
About RERA
The Rooiels Ratepayers Association (RERA) has been through many iterations in our 53 years, all of them seeking to manage the inevitable challenges of the growing number of us who want to live in this beautiful place between the wilderness and the sea, while striving to preserve and protect our fauna and flora, night skies and dusty, windswept peace.
Today we boast a truly inclusive constitution, and are proud to explicitly represent and offer membership to all Rooielsers. We strive to manage the village’s affairs with respect for all opinions, communicating our efforts and decsisions in a timely and honest fashion, and conducting our affairs openly and with courtesy.

Our mission
Our mission is to work with Ratepayers and residents, local government and other authorities to help ensure that policies, regulations, strategies and the delivery of services serve the interests of ratepayers, the community, biodiversity and the natural character of Rooiels.

Join RERA
RERA is Rooiels’ collective effort to make and keep our village a wonderful place to live or visit. Our main job is to help the ratepayers and residents of Rooiels get the best service possible from Overstrand Municipality and the Provincial administration. We do much more around the village too and work in close harmony with the Conservancy and other village organisations. The greater our membership the more influence we have where it matters. So please join our highly effective effort!
Annual membership fees
Becoming a Member of RERA is easier (and cheaper) than you think!
🗣️ Ordinary members: R300 per household
👤 Associate members: R150 per household
Those who pay rates on a Rooiels property may join as an Ordinary Member. Tenants, family members and regular visitors may join as an Associate Member.
While under our constitution only Ordinary members have a vote, our practice is to ensure all are allowed to influence our actions and formal voting is only ever a last resort.
